mutual passion for heels and elegant shoe led to a long-lasting collaboration with Valentino Garavani. They worked directly together for 25 years. In 1980 Dior asked Caovilla to produce some shoes, as did Chanel in 1985. They have been working together since then, though only 15% of their production is dedicated to these two lines because they want to concentrate on their own brand. Among other top designers, Manolo Blahnik has also worked with Caovilla and he spent some time at their factory when he was designing for Dior for a few seasons. What inspires the creation of such unique and exceptional shoes? In Stillfragen (Problem of Style), published in 1983, Alois Riegl wrote: " :the need for decoration is one of man's most basic needs, more so than protecting his body". Decoration is the content and it also transforms the object into its structural being. Caovilla shoes are jewels that possess a secret vitality.
